Symphony of Hurt

There is happiness within a song
So, why do certain melodies feel so wrong
Bring sorrow and pain to the listener’s ear
Open the doorway to self-serving fear
Hold our hearts to the knifes tip
Awaiting it to slice and rip
In tune to a symphony of hurt, pouring out
That essence we all carry in self-doubt

For me, there are two songs that do impale the blade
Cutting deep, so the ache never does fade
The artists harmony, chorus and verse
Replaying memories of that hearse
Taking me back in time and space
Music and words played over a coffin in place
That haunting music to incite recall
Bringing my mind to its knees and I fall
Words impaled; the knife tip felt
Once again, the trauma is dealt

Yet, certain melodies feel so wrong
But we still need to hear that nostalgic song
It is a way of keeping loved one’s near
On that its crystal clear
Even the pain does endear
The heart to whom we still hold dear
So, hear the music played aloud
Let the memories start to sooth, for it is allowed
