Heartbroken and Lonely

There are times when life
Deals you a blow, so low
That the heavens above
Appear a millennium away
The hurt sinks so deep
There is no room to weep

As past pains begin again
And emotions do control
How each day has its own say
About one’s existence innate
From the loss created by fate
Felt within every hour that ticks

The ache rises within the heart
Especially on special days
Ever since you both drifted away
For the absence of you
Is a knife runneth through
Piercing the very soul

Come birthdays, anniversaries
And during Christmas celebrations
The years cannot hide, what’s lost
To a heartbroken and lonely person
Feeling the pangs of agony
Amongst the days, so lonesome

A solitude that creates anxiety
When memories do collide
Within one’s mental divide
Upon festive isolation realisation
That time when family is missed
And reality is clouded by a tearful mist
