Weight, Emotion, Despair, Reality and Grief

Down that old dirt road
where broken hearts linger
beneath grey looking skies
I travel a lost soul’s journey

I’m downcast and trodden
by the weight
of the past I carry
with every single step taken
like shackles of iron

Tramping along life’s highway
with nothing to show,
but nature for a companion
I travel a lost soul’s journey

I’m downcast and trodden
by the emotion
of the loss I carry
with every second of time
that ticks slowly away

Uphill I battle and fight
to render my fear obsolete
while forging a new identity
I travel a lost soul’s journey

I’m downcast and trodden
by a despair
of the loneliness I carry
with every new sunset
that darkens the path

Across a watery expanse
in the depths of obscurity
struggling against the current
I travel a lost soul’s journey

I’m downcast and trodden
by the reality
of an existence within
the cycle of one’s own life
approaching deaths day

Through valleys bottoms
the clouds of grief
are carried upon solemn shoulders
I travel a lost soul’s journey

I’m downcast and trodden
travelling a lost soul’s journey
of solitude and insecurity
bearing the scars
from past into present
while navigating
heart breaks old dirt road
